Local Issues
Graham Williamson
I am a 64 year old pensioner and I took up residence in Norwich approximately six and a half years ago after living in Essex for many years. Unfortunately, I arrived in the city with a very false and misleading profile hanging over me. This profile was concocted by members of the Essex police force. I can only assume that their actions were motivated by the fact that I had been instrumental in an Essex police officer being dismissed from the force.
The profile in question was put together in a very devious way. Drinkers in the pubs that I used in a certain Essex town were asked what they knew about myself. Their answers were based on pub gossip and various other forms of innuendo. All this information was compiled into a profile which was put together in such a manner that anyone reading it could only come to one conclusion.
For quite a long time, I had the notion that the Norwich CID had been reacting to the profile reffered to above. I become so worried about this situation that I felt obliged to lodge a complaint with the Chief Constable, Norfolk police, via Mr Charles Clarke, Labour MP for Norwich.
Eventually, and in response to my complaint, an investigation was carried out by DI S.Armes at Norwich police station. I am in possesson of a copy of a letter(Ref PSGEN 95/O9) which was sent to Charles Clark by DI Stuart Armes in July 2009. This officer states in the following extract (Thererfore I have to say that based upon the information available at this time and the knowledge of officers I have spoken to, there is no suggestion that Mr Williamson is or ever has been the subject of any police investigation).
All this business is a total mystery to me because there are people in the community (especially in my local pubs) who could, if they wished to, disagree with what DI Armes has said to Charles Clarke. If any member of the community knows anything that is relevant to this statement please send an email to

The plot has got thicker
At the beginning of May 2010, I called into the Kings Head pub, Magdalen Street, Norwich. I was informed by a member of staff that a ban that was imposed 2 years previously was still on. It would seem that John, the pub land lord, was getting a little annoyed by members of Norwich CID walking into his pub and making enquiries about myself. This suggests that Detective Stuart Armes does not know what is going on in his own department. If it was not Norwich CID that caused all this aggrevation then it must have been some other branch of officialdom? John, the pub landlord has told several of his customers that my life ban has got nothing to do with my conduct.

Comments.Hello Graham. As requested I'm responding to your report. It is quite apparent that someone is having a go at you in a very serious way. You mention officialdom in your report and I would strongly advise you to seek legal advice. I know about the life ban that John unjustifiably imposed on you. The ban had nothing to do with your conduct and so you have been denied your right to enter a public house. The object of the exercise now is to get John to sign a statement which would explain his real reason for the ban.
He can be legally forced to do this if you make an official complaint through a solicitor. It is suggested that you get in touch with Simon Nicholls who is based in Norwich. This man is very hot on human rights and he can be contacted through his website or by phone. Good luck
<<Simon NichollsYour report is most intriguing and gives rise to a number of questions: 1. Which branch of officialdom threw such a scare into John, the landlord of the Kings Head?
2.If Detective Inspector Stuart Armes has told the truth in his letter to Charles Clarke then who was it that caused all that aggravation in the pub? 3. Why has officialdom given you all this attention for the past 7 years? - and all at the tax payers expense.Informed individual.
Hello, I found your website and decided to take a look at your pages.
I'm most interested in your report about about your experience in respect of the Kings Head on Magdalen Street, Norwich. My advice to you is to approach John in a polite and friendly manner. You must also tie up a few loose ends. The object of your exercise is to obtain a signed statement which would explain why John imposed the life ban. You must visit the pub, along with a reliable witness and ask John if he is willing to provide you with the signed statement. If he should refuse your request, you will have a witness who can be called upon to give evidence at a later date. Should this business go to litigation, you may be asked if you have approached and asked John for the required statement.
